It was also the the largest forest fire since a blaze in Canterbury in 1955.
The fire wreaked havoc in the area around Nelson as thousands of people had to be evacuated from their homes.
I think it must of been very scary for everyone and I am glad that no one got hurt.
Hi Madisyn, this has definitely been a major news item over the last couple of weeks. I agree that it has been very sad for all of those involved. The firefighters worked so hard to save many people's homes from being destroyed. Are the fires out now? What precautions did people need to take to keep their homes safe?
