Learning about the Loch Ness Monster for Main Star

For our Term 3 Main Star I needed to choose a myth or legend from a country and teach my class about it. I chose the Loch Ness Monster.

The Loch Ness Monster
Nickname: Nessie
Origin: Scotland
This is a photo taken in 1934 by a local surgeon. It was later proved to be a hoax.

The Loch Ness Monster is supposed to live in the second largest Scottish Loch, the Loch Ness.
While lots of people have claimed to see Nessie the monster, they usually only saw what appeared to be a head.
Most scientists believe the Loch Ness Monster is not real and say many sightings of the monster were either hoaxes or pictures of other real animals that had been mistaken for Nessie.

A lot of people also believe that Nessie is a Plesiosaurus -- an extinct meat-eating aquatic reptile that lived in the Mesozoic era. Dinosaurs like the Tyrannosaurus and the Stegosaurus also lived at that time.

It has also been described as an elephant, eel and other animals or creatures.

A surgeon took a photo of a head and neck in 1934 -- it was the only photographic evidence. Sixty years later in 1994 it was proved to be a hoax.

The Loch Ness is one of the largest bodies of water in Britain and holds 263 million cubic feet of water.

Despite so many people believing that the Loch Ness Monster is real no animals have ever been discovered in the loch which resemble the mythical Loch Ness Monster.

There are lots of websites, books and movies that have been created around the legend of Nessie.

People are still searching for Nessie today.
